我们在指导学生选择做何种义工的时候,主要从四个方面考虑:Passion(热情),Dedication(投入),Growth(成长),Impact(影响力)。
I was anxious about my job. What kind of job would I get at a Dragon Boat Festival? It would be nice to help at a lemonade stand or an ice cream stand, and even better if I could work at information centre. Also, I could also be asked to dress up as stuffed animals to entertain children, although it would make me hot and sweaty.
I had a lot of reaping during the Dragon Boat Festival last Saturday. It was my first time ever seeing so many races, approximately 50 races, and opponents, roughly one thousand, in a single day. Opponents of all ages, from around 10 to 80 years old, were all so passionate about this fun sport. They really made my day. At the end of the race, many teams said, “thank you” to all the volunteers. I felt really great for helping them.
The positive elements of being a volunteer is watching each team try hard to showcase the sportsmanship. I saw several seniors and even handicapped people involved whole-heartedly in this lively activity, which was really touching.
I really admire their spirit and hope one day I could become a senior like them with passion for life. The members in each group are very unitive. This sport highlights that only a group of united people can achieve great success. Another reason why I am into volunteering for this activity is that each time when the people on the dragon boats said, “thank you, volunteers.” This gave me the stamina to keep working. Overall, this activity is meaningful.
I had a host of thoughts about this volunteer experience. When for the first time athletes said, “ thank you for volunteering,” I felt proud of myself. Helping them to hold the festival is a great job. When the group I had helped won the medal, I felt like I won too, because I felt I was one of them.
