New Common App not Common for Counselors
The long-awaited new Common Application finally rolled out on August 1st, but the newly designed system has a few ambiguities and changes for the education world to sort out.
The 2013 update has brought some changes in organization, a stricter limit on word counts, new essay prompts, and other housekeeping adjustments.
First established in 1975 by 15 private colleges who wanted a standardized system, the Common App has since expanded over the past 30 years to serve over 1 million students and school officials with a membership of over 500 US public and private colleges and universities.
Counselors, teachers, and college admissions are still feeling their way through the new system, with the hopes that it will become intuitive soon-- and ultimately beneficial to their students.
