The cold weather with unwonted heavy snowfall had enriched this long Christmas break a lot.
I’ve never seen such a heavy snow before--actually I’ve rarely seen snow when I lived in Shanghai, a warm coastal city. In my memory, it only snowed twice. I was amazed when I went out one day, seeing the silver world with snowflakes falling. In this beautiful scene, I immersed myself in the fresh, cold air.
Every coin had two sides, under the wonderful scenery that the snow had brought us, there were some obvious problems. The ground became really slippery and even dangerous after the snow had melted into ice. I can not remember how many times I fell during the snowy days, and the wounds still make me feel painful now.
My mother came to Canada on December 20th for Christmas. She lived in her friend’s house for a couple of days, and we went to downtown together during the boxing week. There were many people caught up in the holiday shopping frenzy with the reduction in prices. I was not that kind of crazy, but still really enjoyed the shopping time. Those exquisite clothing and cosmetics interested me the most. My friend’s brother, who had been in Canada for several years and had fully explored around downtown, was familiar with some genuinely decent restaurants, which were not well known because of their poor propaganda. We went to a Japanese restaurant after shopping. The storefront was small and even inconspicuous. However, they served one of the most delicious Japanese food I’ve ever tasted. The fish flavor amazed me because it was totally different from some ‘fake’ Japanese restaurants.
I went back to my homestay family before the New Year’s Eve to join the new year dinner with my homestay family and other international students. Our hostess is a perfect cook. She’s also a woman who cares about others a lot. All the international students now living in the family are Asians, so she decided to make many Asians dishes, which tasted really goluptious.
In conclusion, it was a satisfying Christmas break.
